How to get the right skate setup

First off, Happy New Years skaters. As skater's, It's very important that we have at least a decent setup. In this article, I will be going over all the important thing's that you'll need in a setup, what I personally like, and other information that could be useful in setting up your complete.

The Deck

The skateboard deck is probably the most important part of a setup. Picking the right one is an important thing as well, it will dictate the trucks you get. It will cost roughly $65-75 for a deck. I've wrote an article before about picking a size, which I will link below this section. But I'll give a brief rundown. I personally prefer 8.5, it's on the bigger side of the deck spectrum. Bigger decks are easier to land on, and overall are more spacious. But you might like a different size. If you dont have a size picked, I highly recommend checking out the size picking article.

Picking trucks

Trucks are an important thing too. There's tons of different brands such as Krux, Ace, Thunder, Tensor, and more. But personally, I like Independant a lot, and so do most skaters. Trucks will cost roughly $60, although there is some cheaper options, this one is higher end. I usually reuse all my parts and just get new decks, so it's better to go all out on parts. The Truck I recommend is the stage 11 hollow standards. It's overall a solid truck and the fact that it's hollow could help you get the board up easier. You just have to make sure you pick the right size trucks for your skateboard deck. Because in this situation, size does matter.

Wheels

Wheels will cost you around $35-45. When it comes to picking the right wheel, theres two factors to keep in mind. The size and hardness. Size is usually displayed in mm, and hardness is displayed in a. The average wheel size is 52-56mm, I wouldnt go any bigger or smaller. Hardness is another thing. The higher the number, the harder it is. Hard wheels are better for skateboards and softer are better for longboards. I personally do not recommend softer wheels on a skateboard. I recommend 99a or 101a.

Bearings

The final important thing are bearings. I highly highly recommend Bones Reds Bearings, pictured below. They will cost nearly $19. They are the most common skate bearing that skaters use. Although you can choose a different bearing option, reds is usually the best option for price and reliability.

Final Thing's You'll Need

The last couple things you'll need is just hardware and griptape. Really any hardware works. I recommend getting one different color bolt pack to put in the front so you can quickly tell where the nose is. But griptape is important. I prefer Mob griptape, although there's a slightly less grippy brand, Jessup which isnt terrible either

Final Thoughts

Of course you dont have to buy the things I recommend. You can always do your own thing and learn from what you like. I hope this article at least helped a little. Have a beautiful day and skate on :)
